Week of August 16-20

We are off to a wonderful start in 2C and  I am so lucky to have such a sweet group of kids!

Please check the assignment book nightly for the homework assignments.  We will be starting homework on Monday night.  I have listed the homework below since second graders are new at the assignment book.  It is VERY important the assignment book is signed EVERY night.

Homework for the week of August 16-20
Every Night - Read for 15 minutes and record the time read on the Reading Calendar.

Monday - Math Worksheet - Problem Solving 1-5 and the Monday section of the "Daily Language Review"
Tuesday - Journal Writing - I will send home a small journal.  Have your child put their name, number and date at the top.  They will also need to title their journal entry.  This week's journal entry is "Tell five things you would like to do on your next birthday." and the Tuesday section of the "Daily Language Review"
Wednesday - Math worksheet Practice 1-7 and Problem Solving 1-7 and the Wednesday section of the "Daily Language Review"
Thursday -  Thursday section of the "Daily Language Review"

A look at what we will be studying this week:
  • In Language Arts we will be starting off with letter writing.  We will be reading aloud some great books that are examples of letter writing.  We will discuss the purpose of writing friendly letters, how to format friendly letters and then writing one of our own.  We will also begin centers this week.
  • In Math we will be studying graphing.  We will talk about the different types of graphing (bar graphs and pictographs).  The students will learn how to gather the information and apply it to their graphs.  Some of the things we will be graphing are our birthdays, our favorite fruits, and the number of letters in our names.
  • In Social Studies we are going to learn about communities.  We will discuss what communities are and how we have a school community and a classroom community.

Just a few reminders for you....
  • Open House is Thursday, August 19th from 5:00 until 7:00.  I will be doing a whole group presentation at 5:45.  It will be in our classroom.
  • Summer reading projects are due on Monday,  August 23rd.  You received the information on Friday.
  • I will be updating the blog every Monday.  If I update it during the week I will let you know via the assignment book.
  • PLEASE put in writing if your child has a change is their afternoon transportation.  If there is no note, your child will go home the normal way.  This is for the safety and security of your child.
  • If you have not emailed me at kbradley@amschool.org from the email account that you would like to use please do so as soon as possible.  Please put your child's name in the subject line.
  • We have four girls with the same lunchbox and backpack (It is pink and black with peace, love, and rock written all over it).  Please label the backpack, water bottle, and lunchbox.
